The network's Leading New Show of 2025 Earns a Substantial Renewal for Seasons 2 and 3.

During the fall season, the late-night programming block saw the return of its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. However, not long after, the channel launched a brand-new animated series with a markedly softer feel. Haha, You Clowns was sweet and soothing, reminiscent of a animated take of a serene talk show. At a time often characterized by bleakness, this show's sincerity found an audience and propelled it a breakout hit.

A Significant Investment

On December 18th, Adult Swim revealed exciting news: Haha, You Clowns has been picked up for two additional seasons. This gives creator Joe Cappa a massive runway to develop the story of the Campbell family. The series centers on three well-mannered teenage brothers whose defining trait is their deep love for their single father, with Cappa portraying for all four key characters.

"I am incredibly thankful to the viewers of the show who welcomed the series and spread the word," remarked Cappa. "I’m incredibly thrilled that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for a little longer."

Network Praise

The official statement also included commendation from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "profoundly sincere and strangely uncanny." He thanked the fans who embraced the show and championed its uniquely offbeat style.

"All of you showed up for this new show, championed for it on social media, and expanded its audience week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Comforting Counterpoint

Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was described as "a comforting antidote" to more cynical adult animated fare. There’s something unexpectedly cozy about observing this endearing family go about their everyday routines.

At the time, creator Joe Cappa stated his desire to evolve comedy past its prevailing cynical streak. He traced this trend to the rise of certain blockbuster franchises.

“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we keep returning to,” noted Cappa. “It feels as if we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we just have to laugh at something different now. The genre needs to change.”

What Comes Next

With this renewal, with Haha, You Clowns set to continue, Cappa could potentially catalyze that comedic shift. At a minimum, the renewal promises audiences more opportunities to experience the heartfelt moments of the endearing Campbell clan.

The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns will premiere on December 21st. The entire series is available for streaming on HBO Max.
