The Mighty Nein's Opening Sequence Selected the Incorrect Popular RPG Show Track
This latest animated series, the newest animated series from the beloved role-playing group, unveiled an exciting opening credits. It showcases the beloved group of outcasts, misfits, and criminals fighting hard and taking names, while teasing at several agonizing backstories for characters such as Liam O'Brien's mage Caleb, and Travis Willingham's orc warlock, the character Fjord.
All in all, the intro looks amazing. However, I felt that an element was lost in the song choice.
This sequence employs "Welcome to Wildemount", an exceptional composition created by artist Colm McGuinness. It's a track originating from the official score of that title, the second release released by the production company's record label their music brand. It's a wonderful sentimental option, and I suspect that fans of the sequel series will love its presence.
Personally, The Mighty Nein's opening doesn't quite capture the excitement and excitement that accompanied the show's actual-play adventure. "Your Turn to Roll", written by musician Jason Charles Miller, became an immediate hit in my view when it was initially unveiled in 2015, and it only got better when co-founder Sam Riegel added lyrics to the tune for the series' animated intro in the later year.
Including singing from Ashley Johnson, another performer, Travis Willingham, as well as Riegel himself, the song was catchy and fun. Back then, I hadn't even watched the follow-up series yet, but this was such an earworm that I still saved it on my phone. It's a song that excites you before you dive into an episode of fantasy hijinks.
The Mighty Nein's opening with "Welcome to Wildemount" doesn't strike the same chords in my opinion. It's a grand composition, but from what I know of this party, I can't help but feel that its tone is a little off.
Naturally, the creators has already said that the series will have some changes and differences from the actual-play campaign. An adjusted mood for its opening appears as one of them.
The Mighty Nein will be released on the streaming service from November 19. If you can't wait before that, or want a head start to learn about the characters of Critical Role's Campaign 2, the original episodes are available on the audio platform and YouTube.
