Slot Asserts He Feels Safe and Has Liverpool's Support Following PSV Loss
The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it was understandable for doubts to be asked about his position after another heavy defeat against PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds endured their ninth defeat in 12 matches, representing the club's worst streak after being demoted in the 1953-54 season.
They were dominated by the Dutch league title holders on a difficult evening at Anfield.
“I am feeling safe, I'm fine, I've received plenty of support from the top,” Slot stated.
“It would be nice to turn it around and earn three points of course but if you are in a managerial role and struggling then it is normal that people question you.”
He continued, “I am OK with my position. This isn't the first time I’ve been in a tough spot but it's necessary that we improved our results.”
Talks with Liverpool Hierarchy
When asked to elaborate on his conversations with the club's leadership, the head coach explained:
“We talk a lot. They assist to the team and for me and those talks happen but they don't phone me constantly each day to say they trust me.”
He added, “Through standard discussions I sense the confidence. However I've not talked to them since this game so far so it remains to be seen.”
Recurring Issues and Player Response
Slot highlighted known weaknesses from his team in their Champions League defeat, namely poor finishing and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was blunter in his assessment of the club’s predicament.
“I haven't got the answers. Frankly, I don’t. I'm telling that to everybody,” Jones stated.
“It's simply not good enough. I don’t even have to wait to reflect. I’m past being angry internally. I've reached the stage currently where I simply lack the words.”
He continued, “It's difficult because I play for the team I support. I support them, and I've watched this club since I was young.”
“For many years, I've not seen a Reds side enduring a period like this with performances like these.”
Jones finished, “But we still have the emblem on our shirts. And until it is removed, we'll continue to fight.”
“We’re going to try to bring this squad back to where it needs to be, demonstrate to all again the values of this club and the reason it's called the best team in the world.”
“However currently, we’re in the shit and it needs to change.”
