Jets Coach Aaron Glenn Confident Kris Boyd Will Make a Full Recovery After NYC Incident
New York Jets coach Aaron Glenn revealed that he has been in contact with cornerback Kris Boyd and feels certain the player will be OK after being shot in central New York in the early hours of Sunday.
Glenn described that Boyd, currently in the hospital, was “positive” during their recent conversation.
“That’s what eases my mind, is that he’s feeling positive,” Glenn said Wednesday. “His wife and his kid, they are doing well and he will come through this without issue.”
It remained unclear when Boyd might be released the hospital, where he has been listed as in critical but steady condition.
“Not certain at the moment,” Glenn remarked. “However, I can share, from our conversation, he seemed very positive. And again, that puts my mind at ease, that he feels like that and he expresses himself so positively.”
New York police issued security footage earlier this week of an individual wanted in the attack on the player. What prompted the attack is still being looked into and authorities said it is unknown if Boyd was singled out. There were no additional victims as confirmed by officials.
The incident occurred in the early morning on Sunday morning about halfway between the famous arena and Times Square. Boyd, twenty-nine, was admitted to a local hospital after sustaining an abdominal gunshot wound, as reported. The assailant escaped.
Glenn mentioned Boyd has been on his mind “constantly” since the news broke. He further stated that Boyd and his spouse just had a child.
“My initial concern, he has a new baby,” Glenn noted. “My mind went to his family, worrying about his newborn and I hope he recovers fully. That was my main concern.
“There is a procedure involved, that I won’t detail, but I am pleased that he’s going to come out of this thing really, really well.”
Boyd was inactive in the present campaign, his first with the Jets, after being placed on injured reserve on mid-August with an injury to his shoulder that needed an operation.
Boyd came to New York as a new signing in March and was anticipated to become an important component of the team’s updated special teams under the coach and special teams coordinator Chris Banjo. But Boyd was injured during a practice session on early August and had to be helped off.
Boyd has stayed involved with the squad throughout the season while recovering from the shoulder injury.
“He remains involved with our activities,” Glenn commented. “In fact, he attends every game. His commitment is total. To be one of the top special teams players in this league, he has been instrumental in guiding others.”
Boyd, a Texas native, played his first four seasons with Minnesota after being a seventh-round pick by the Vikings out of UT in the 2019 draft. He signed with Arizona in 2023 and later was with the Texans later that season. Boyd agreed to a one-year deal valued at $1.6 million with the Jets in March.
