Schools in the northern part of Nigeria have repeatedly come under attack for militant organizations

Weapon-carrying attackers have fatally shot an educator and abducted at least 25 students in an raid targeting a female high school in Nigeria's northwestern region, authorities have confirmed.

The criminal group invaded the comprehensive secondary school for girls in Maga, Kebbi State at around 4 AM local time on Monday, officials stated.

The attackers "confronted officers on duty in a firefight" before breaching the school's outer barrier and seizing the students from their living quarters, according to a statement.

One member of staff was killed while trying to protect the students. A second sustained gunshot wounds and is now receiving treatment.

Witnesses reported a sizeable number of assailants, identified in the area as outlaw groups, who arrived firing sporadically to generate terror.

Community members disclosed to media that the gunmen subsequently marched a group of female students into adjacent wilderness.

The law enforcement confirmed they had positioned "extra specialized police forces, together with army members and community security teams" to the area.

A systematic finding and recovery effort is currently ongoing in nearby woodlands and believed flight corridors.

In recent years, schools in northern Nigeria have become frequent targets for militant organizations, who routinely perform seizures to demand financial compensation or secure advantages in discussions with officials.

The incident in Kebbi State underscores the continuing safety emergency afflicting the area, causing relatives in Maga in a situation of anxious fatigue as they wait and hope for their young ones' unharmed reappearance.

Security crisis in northern Nigeria has escalated dramatically in the last several months, with schools bearing the brunt of the conflict.
