Ex- Physician Faces Sexual Assault Allegations Involving 38 Individuals in His Care

Prosecutors have stated that a former physician stands accused of committing sexual assaults involving 38 victims who were patients.

Details of the Grave Charges

Nathaniel Spencer from Birmingham is accused of dozens of acts of sexual assault – comprising some against minors under the age of thirteen – spanning the period from 2017 to 2021.

One deputy chief CPS official said, “Legal teams have worked at length to support a detailed and complex investigation, carefully reviewing the evidence to establish that there is sufficient evidence to proceed to trial and that it is in the public interest.”

Scope of the Police Inquiry

The charges come after what investigators called a “complex investigation” into alleged assaults at two hospitals: a hospital in Stoke-on-Trent and Russells Hall hospital.

Spencer is due to appear at the North Staffordshire justice centre on January 20th.

Breakdown of Charges

The charging documents said the forty-five sexual offences include:

  • Fifteen counts of sexual assault.
  • 17 counts of penetrative assault.
  • Nine counts of assault on a minor under thirteen.
  • 3 counts of penetrative assault on a child under thirteen.
  • 1 count of attempted penetrative assault.
