One 60-day voyage circling the Land Down Under has been cancelled in the wake of the fatal incident of an elderly female passenger who was stranded by the vessel on a remote island.

The elderly woman had been walking on Lizard Island with other travelers from the Coral Adventurer, but separated from the party for a pause. The ship departed without her and went back several hours later after the ship staff realised the lady was unaccounted for.

A large-scale hunt found her remains the subsequent day.

Investigative bodies are looking into the tragedy, in coordination with law enforcement and the official investigator.

The CEO of the shipping company stated that passengers and crew on the Coral Adventurer were told that the rest of the journey had been cancelled due to the "unfortunate death and prior engine troubles".

In a statement, he added that guests would be provided a full refund, and said the operator was working "to organize the travel back of the passengers via chartered flights".

Authorities also published an latest communication, and said they had "provided a notice to the Captain" preventing any further travelers from entering the liner.
