An informant has disclosed an official investigation that British authorities failed to secure confidential devices enabling the Taliban to locate local individuals who worked with western forces.

Data Breach Endangers Numerous in Danger

Person A, known as Person A, stated that individuals impacted by the security lapse were instructed to relocate and change their mobile numbers to protect themselves from the Taliban.

Lawmakers are looking into official management of a catastrophic leak of confidential data involving approximately 19k individuals who had applied to relocate to the United Kingdom to avoid militant rule.

Data Disclosure Was Discovered

An electronic document including private information, including names, contact details and in some cases family information, was accidentally leaked by an official stationed at UK special forces headquarters in last year.

The leak came to light months later, when the names of nine people who had applied to relocate to Britain surfaced on Facebook.

“We advised that they relocate when possible and changed their phone numbers. These represented the two main details that, should militant forces obtained these details, would result in them being traced,” Person A explained.

Disputed Conclusions

Person A contested that government assessment conducted by a former official had been incorrect to conclude that the acquisition of the information by the Taliban was “minimally impact an individual's existing exposure”.

“The important fact is that these Afghans are not confronting the authorities; they remain concealed. All concerns relate to former occupations.”

She detailed disturbing treatment endured by concerned people, involving electrocution, interrogation techniques, and severe beatings.

“There are cases of young kids who have had bones crushed to force relatives to reveal locations,” she testified.
