In a surprising partnership that challenges usual expectations, the game developer has announced an in-game crossover between Assassin's Creed Shadows and the popular anime series Attack on Titan. The unusual Thanksgiving event operates from November 25 through December 22, offering free additional story content for Shadows players.

Strange Questline Revealed

According to the official statement, "An unusual encounter draws protagonists Naoe and Yasuke into a original adventure, where rumors of prohibited practices and terrifying changes echo through the darkness." The storyline presents a "unusually garbed woman named Ada" who assigns the duo with journeying into the Crystalline Cavern—a key location from Attack on Titan—to save her ally from a hidden cult.

The adventure concentrates on "peculiar experiments and a terrifying adversary" and is available to all players who have unlocked the Yasuke character.

Recognizable Places and Changes

The preview showcases the Underground Chapel from Attack on Titan reimagined as the Crystal Cave. This historic location was previously where the Reiss royal family transmitted the Founding Titan ability through generations. The preview ends with a powerful scene showing a character, presumably the hostage, changing into a Titan that towers over Naoe and Yasuke.

Exclusive Items and Additional Material

Players who successfully complete the mission will acquire an special katana alongside multiple items hidden throughout the area in secret chests. The update also contains purchasable Attack on Titan item packs, offering:

• Mikasa attire for Naoe
• Special weapons
• Survey Corps vehicle

Third Free Story Addition

This release also brings the game's latest free story addition, titled "A Puzzlement." This humorous adventure pairs Naoe and Yasuke as they trade distinctive abilities: Naoe introduces a performative interpretation of Yasuke's war kick, while Yasuke masters non-fatal stealth takedowns. True to its name, "The Mystery" also features a new environmental puzzle that may finally explain some unanswered questions from the main storyline.

Earlier Japanese Animation Collaborations

This represents not the initial time the Assassin's Creed franchise has partnered with well-known anime franchises. The series formerly showcased a 2020 collaborative story connecting Assassin's Creed: Valhalla with Makoto Yukimura's Vinland Saga. Moreover, Valhalla informally featured a quest that clearly nodded to the famous series One-Punch Man.
